Novena to St. Anthony of Padua (2nd and 4th Tuesdays)

Saint Anthony of Padua holding a Small Child

Holy Saint Anthony, gentlest of saints, your love for God and charity for His creatures, made you worthy when on earth to possess miraculous powers. Miracles waited on your word which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore of you to obtain for me …

(mention your petition)

The answer to my prayer may require a miracle; even so, you are the saint of miracles. O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the sweet infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms, and the gratitude of my heart, will ever be yours. Amen.

Theme: THE FAMILY
(SECOND and FOURTH TUESDAYS)

Leader: Loving Father, in Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, You have created a new family. We are gathered before You to make our humble response to Your call.

All: Remember, O God Almighty, Your infinite fatherly love for us, and through the intercession of St. Anthony of Padua, our protector, we pray You to bless our families and our work. Be our strength in our infirmity. Come to our aid against all kinds of illnesses and dangers in life and be our sure hope in times of suffering and trials.

Leader: Father, You made St. Anthony of Padua the patron of lovers.

All: Let there be love between husbands and wives. Teach them true love is steadfast fidelity to each other. Remind them always that their faithfulness is their fundamental commitment to the Church and to Your Son Jesus Christ, Our Lord.

Leader: Father, You have sent Your Son to the arms of St. Anthony of Padua in the form of a child.

All: May there be love between parents and children. Grant fathers and mothers the openness and the tenderness to form their children as Christian individuals and not as their duplicates. Make children docile to their parent’s love and let them grow in wisdom and grace.

Leader: Father, You awarded St. Anthony of Padua the Lily of chastity even at a tender age.

All: In every home, may there be chastity, victory over sin, humility, thoughtfulness, gratefulness and full observance of Your word. Make every Christian home a domestic church so that Your presence may be felt in an unbelieving world.

Leader: Father, You called St. Anthony of Padua from a refined family.

All: Keep in our families a desire for the refinements of the human spirit – the nobility of conduct, the creativity of work, interest in humanities and a time for sound recreation. May parents refuse any form of hypersexuality and violence provoking communications media to enter their homes to preserve the innocence of our children.

Leader: Father, You made St. Anthony of Padua the advocate for childless couples.

All: Instill in the hearts of young couples the Biblical faith that children are gifts from You. Form in them a conscience that sees the evil in sinful contraception and abortion. Remind them always of their responsibility.

Leader: Father, You have given us St. Anthony of Padua as the saint of miracles.

All: Through his intercession, grant us this petition…

(mention your petition)

Leader: With deep trust in God’s fatherly care and in the intercession of St. Anthony, let us pray:

All: Father, we consecrate our homes to You. Send the spirit of Your Son to them that our families may be kept together by Your love. We make this prayer to You with confidence because it is made through the intercession of our patron St. Anthony of Padua.

Leader: For the Holy Father, Pope Francis, for our Archbishop, Luis Antonio, for bishops and priests and for the communities of Christians, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord, through the intercession of St. Anthony, hear our prayer.

Leader: For civic leaders that they may always realize the family life in the growth of society, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord, through the intercession of St. Anthony, hear our prayer.

Leader: For our own community, that we may continue to cherish the Christian family values in our Filipino heritage, let us pray to the Lord.

All: Lord, through the intercession of St. Anthony, hear our prayer.

Leader: We thank You, Father, that You sanctify men in families. Grant that in our family life we may begin to realize the great family of whom You are Father in Jesus Christ Your Son our Lord.

All: Amen.
